Title: Senior C++ Developer
Type: Permanent, Full-time
Location: Hybrid remote in Shoreditch, London - 2 days per week in office, must be able to reliably commute
Salary: £80,000–£100,000 + EMI Share Options + Private Medical Insurance
Position Overview
Are you an experienced C++ developer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges where precision and performance truly matter? At Hoptroff, we take care of time, literally.
We build nanosecond-accurate, software-driven timing systems used by global investment banks, telecoms operators, and broadcasters. Our technology powers MiFID II-compliant trade timestamping and supports critical systems where milliseconds simply aren’t precise enough.
We’re entering an exciting phase of growth and are looking for a Senior C++ Developer to join our high-calibre engineering team. You’ll write modern C++ (C++20+) at the core of our Linux-based timing and synchronisation platform, working on performance-sensitive systems where correctness and determinism are critical.
You’ll own significant platform components, influence architecture decisions, and collaborate closely within a small, highly collaborative engineering team.
What You'll Do:
• Design, build, and optimise low-latency, high-precision C++ systems at the heart of our timing products
• Make architectural decisions balancing performance, maintainability, observability, and real-world timing constraints
• Develop online and offline tooling supporting time synchronisation and system monitoring
• Build and maintain automated test cases using Python-based frameworks
• Provide senior technical input across Product, QA, Hardware, and commercial discussions
• Support, mentor, and review work alongside junior developers
• Help shape engineering standards, tooling, and development processes
What We’re Looking For:
• Extensive experience writing modern C++ in production environments
• Strong understanding of C++20/23 features including concepts, ranges, coroutines, and constexpr principles
• Proven experience building low-latency, performance-sensitive Linux systems
• Strong computer science fundamentals including algorithms, concurrency, optimisation, and system design
• Experience designing architecture and making sound technical trade-offs
• Strong debugging and profiling experience using tools such as perf, valgrind, sanitizers, or flame graphs
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, CMake, and modern testing frameworks
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have:
• Linux networking experience (sockets, networking concepts, tooling)
• Experience interacting with hardware and low-level Linux interfaces
• Windows systems development experience
• PostgreSQL or relational database experience
• Python and/or Go (Golang) experience
• Familiarity with PTP and NTP time synchronisation protocols
• Open-source contributions or active involvement in modern C++ developments
• Interest in AI tooling and emerging technologies
Why Join Us:
• Salary £80,000 - £100,000 depending on experience
• EMI Share Options
• Private Medical Insurance
• Hybrid flexibility with 2 days in our Shoreditch office
• Work from a thriving Shoreditch FinTech environment with networking and social events
• Your work directly supports global financial markets, broadcasters, and telecoms infrastructure
• High ownership and meaningful technical impact
• A collaborative team invested in continuous learning and modern tooling
